Aga Khan University Hospital’s Radiology Department was awarded the first prize for presenting the best poster in the quality improvement projects category at the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) 29th International Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The conference, with the theme ‘Advancing Quality and Safety for All: Now and In the Future’, was attended by more than 1,000 delegates from 70 countries. There were 250 presentations, a 500-poster exhibition and over 100 expert speakers sharing their expertise and knowledge relative to improving healthcare quality and safety worldwide.
AKUH’s poster ‘Reducing Image Retake for All Patients Undergoing General Radiographic Examinations Resulting in Lesser Radiation Exposure in a Tertiary Care Teaching Hospital in the Developing World’ describes how image retakes can be reduced for examinations like x-rays and mammography to improve patient safety and avoid the adverse effects of unnecessary radiation exposure.
Three AKUH departments presented at the conference: two papers and eight posters by the Radiology Department, two posters by the Health Information Management Services, and a poster by the Nursing Services Division. Several members also participated in the oral presentations.
ISQua is a non-profit, membership organisation in the healthcare industry. Its international accreditation programme is the only platform that accredits accreditors, such as the Joint Commission International (JCI), which is the global leader in accrediting healthcare organisations.
AKUH is the first hospital in Pakistan and among the few teaching hospitals in the region to receive the prestigious JCI accreditation.
