Department of Emergency Medicine 

The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at Aga Khan University Hospital is a pioneer in introducing emergency medical services in Pakistan. Our highly skilled team of trained physicians and nurses provide treatment all round the clock, seven days a week at the Stadium Road Campus and the Urgent Care Services (UCS) at Clifton Medical Services. 

The Department of Emergency Medicine, Stadium Road Campus provides all emergency services that are needed by the patients under one roof including Laboratory services, Radiology including CT scan and MRI, Pharmacy and Nutritionist services. 

Annually around 60,000 patients visits DEM and the UCS, of which 27% are pediatric and 73% are Adult patients. Around 40% of these patients admitted to the hospital for further health care management.   

A dedicated team of physicians, nurses and other health professionals is responsible for providing patient care related to the assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and disposition of acute illness or injury.  These emergencies include chest pain, acute abdomens, and shortness of breath, stroke, complicated pregnancies, broken bones, diarrhea, asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease-Exacerbation etc. Being as a Tertiary care center, many patients are referred from other centers in the country. Both sites serve patients of all ages including children, adults and elderly. 

The Department of Emergency Medicine had a revamped state-of-the-art infrastructure in October 2008. After this expansion, the DEM now has a capacity of 49 beds, including the following facilities:
