Department of Emergency Medicine
The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at the Aga Khan University Hospital is a pioneer in introducing emergency medical services in Pakistan. Our highly skilled team of trained physicians and nurses provide treatment 24/7 at the Stadium Road Campus and the Urgent Care Services (UCS) at Clifton Medical Services (CMS).
The Department aims to provide efficient and high quality emergency medical care to all patients regardless of sex, age, caste and financial status. The Department handles a wide range of adult and paediatric emergencies including acute medical, surgical, trauma, obstetrical and gynecological and psychiatric services. Many of our patients are referrals from other centers in the country.
Since its establishment in 2008 the Department has undergone major expansion. Not only the bed strength has increased but the present emergency is backed up with credentialed faculty and state-of-the-art equipment. This addition has had a major impact on the Emergency Department’s working and in the foreseeable future we intend to provide integrated emergency services all under one roof.
Clinical care in the Department is supervised by trained faculty and is supported by a team of instructors, residents, senior medical officers and interns. DEM provides all emergency services under one roof including laboratory services, radiology, pharmacy and nutritionist services.
DEM and UCS together handle around 60,000 patients annually.
