Matthias Sc</em></span><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><em>h</em></span><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><em>auer (2nd right), </em></span><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><em>German Ambassador to Uganda and </em><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><em>Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network in Uganda, </em></span><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><em>Ambassador Amin Mawji (right)</em></span></span><span style="font-family: helvetica;">​</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has donated Covid-19 testing kits and masks valued at UGX 2 billion (€ 520,000) to the Government of Uganda to boost its Covid-19 response.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The donation financed by the German government through a grant offered by the German Development Bank (KFW), consists of 23,000 Covid-19 testing kits, 22,000 Covid-19 extraction kits and 554,700 masks.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">While handing over the donation on behalf of AKUH, the Diplomatic Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network in Uganda, Ambassador Amin Mawji noted that &quot;this donation affirms the commitment of the Aga Khan Development Network and its partners, in this case the German Government, to support the people of Uganda at this difficult time&quot;.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The donation was received by the Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng who noted that it was a timely boost to the national response, amidst the current surge in infections.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The German Ambassador, H.E. Matthias Schauer, emphasized: “The donation by Germany has arrived at just the right moment – Uganda is facing a dramatic second coronavirus wave that brings along a steep rise in the number of infections and increases the pressure on the health system. Sufficient medical capacities and equipment are now more urgently needed than ever before in the course of this pandemic. Therefore, I am very happy that Germany with this donation is able to continue its support to Uganda in these highly challenging times.
