Neurology clinic services
This is a service designed to cater for neonates, children and adolescents with problems arising from the nervous system some of which may be as a result of birth defects, problems related to child delivery as well as consequences of infections or trauma on the nervous system.
We recently introduced an Epilepsy/Sleep in-patient monitoring unit to diagnose epilepsy and non-epileptic seizures, uncontrolled epilepsy requiring surgery, and sleep-related disorders for children. Children can be admitted between 2 -5 weekdays for tests to be conducted.
We also review children with intellectual disability or developmental delays to provide an understanding of possible causes as well as measures that can be taken to help the child achieve their best potential while reducing advancement of possible complications. We run three clinics a week including;
- Tuesdays from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Fridays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Neurology patient rounds are conducted daily for those who need inpatient service. At Aga Khan University hospital, Nairobi, we work closely with practitioners in rehabilitation including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, educational psychologists, nutritionists and clinical psychologists to provide a wholesome interventional program for our patients. Diagnostic services essential to child neurology practice including MRI, PET CT Scan, EEG and neurophysiology tests are also available on site.
