AKUH Demonstrates Its Commitment to Eradicating Hepatitis C

The prevalence of Hepatitis is much higher in Pakistan as compared to other parts of the world. The widespread of this disease is mostly due to factors that include; unscreened blood transfusions, unsterilised dental as well as surgical instruments, unhygienic reuse of syringes in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. Lack of awareness, insufficient preventive measures and shortage of treatment facilities, are some factors adding to the burden of the disease. Early diagnosis and screening for Hepatitis C is vital as it can help to treat the patient promptly before it gets worst.

To eradicate Hepatitis C from Pakistan, The Aga Khan University Hospital has taken the leadership role in introducing specialized Hepatitis C clinics at Medical Centres across Pakistan.
