Prostatitis is the inflammation of the prostate gland. This gland is specific to men, surrounding the urethra (tube which expels the urine from the bladder outside the body) and is responsible for producing semen. The causes of inflammation are wide ranging, from bacterial infections and chronic pelvic pain syndrome to a physical injury.
While its age-wise prevalence among men is contested, most men observe it in one form or another at least once in a lifetime.
