The OBGYN Day Assessment Unit at AKUH is designed to provide expectant mothers with expert care and peace of mind. Our unit offers a safe and efficient environment for assessment, monitoring, and treatment, ensuring a healthy journey for both the mother and the ​​baby. Our services go beyond routine prenatal and high-risk care, providing a stabilisation unit for a range of pregnancy-related conditions.

Conditions We Treat

Our programme is tailored to address a range of pregnancy-related conditions, including:

  • Pregnancy care
  • High blood pressure in pregnancy, including pre-eclampsia
  • Gestational diabetes and blood sugar monitoring
  • Reduced fetal movements
  • Nausea, vomiting, anaemia, and other pregnancy-related concerns​

Our Services

During your day assessment visits, you will undergo a series of checks and potential treatments, including:

  • Comprehensive assessment: Discuss your health history and any concerns.
  • Laboratory tests: Comprehensive blood and urine tests to assess maternal and fetal health.
  • Ultrasound examinations: Detailed imaging to assess fetal growth, amniotic fluid levels, and placental function.
  • Blood pressure monitoring: Regular checks to monitor and manage hypertension.
  • Blood sugar monitoring: Regular checks to monitor and manage blood glucose.
  • Fetal monitoring (CTG): Continuous monitoring of the baby's heart rate and movements using advanced technology. 
  • Parenteral iron therapy: Safe and effective treatment for anaemia during pregnancy to ensure optimal maternal and fetal health.
  • IV hydration: Management of dehydration for expecting mothers experiencing excessive vomiting or other health concerns.
  • Medications: Provision of necessary medications to manage specific conditions.
  • Patient counselling: Providing information and support to help patients understand their condition and manage their pregnancy. ​
