Welcome to Clinical Imaging Services (Radiology)

The Clinical Imaging Services at the Aga Khan University Hospital offer a wide range of diagnostic services at the Main Hospital Campus (Stadium Road, Karachi) such as such as x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound. Our facilities are modern, furnished with the latest technology and equipment. Some Clinical Imaging Services are also offered at Clifton Medical Services (CMS, Karachi) and some basic (x-ray and ultrasound) services at our hospitals in Garden (Karachi), Karimabad (Karachi), Karadar (Karachi) and Hyderabad.

The Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) has certified our Clinical Imaging Services. The PNRA operates under the regulatory requirements of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and conducts regular audits and inspections for quality assurance and radiation safety. The Aga University Hospital is also accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) that further ensures we deliver high quality health care that meets international standards.

Our highly trained and experienced team of consultant radiologists (medical doctors with specialized training in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries using medical imaging techniques), clinical imaging technicians and nurses ensure that the images are properly taken and interpreted to give you fast and accurate results. Some of our services are offered around the clock not just for our admitted patients (inpatients) but also for patients visiting our consulting clinics (outpatients) as well as those patients referred from physicians from other hospitals.

Magnetic resonance imaging uses a powerful magnetic field and a series of radio wave energy pulses to produce detailed images of the tissues and organs within the body. An MRI does not employ radiation.

Ultrasound imaging uses high-frequency sound waves from a probe (transducer) to look at organs and structures inside the body.

X-rays (x-radiation) are a type of radiation known as electromagnetic waves.
