​Fetal Medicine Service

Overview

Our Maternal & Foetal Medicine service provides multidisciplinary care for high-risk pregnancies, with a focus on optimising outcomes for both mother and baby. When your unborn baby needs specialised attention, our team offers:

• Preconception genetic counselling and testing where genetic risk is increased

• Care for pre-eclampsia, preterm labour, and foetal growth restriction

• Advanced 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound for early detection of foetal anomalies from as early as 12 weeks, including targeted imaging such as foetal echocardiography for babies at risk of heart disease

• Non-invasive prenatal testing and Down syndrome screening

Where indicated, we also perform invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including:

• Amniocentesis

• Chorionic villus sampling

• Cordocentesis

• Amnioreduction

• Thoracocentesis

• Intrauterine foetal transfusion

We welcome referrals from across East and Central Africa. If a concern is identified, we work closely with your referring obstetrician and our multidisciplinary team to develop a coordinated plan of care — combining visits to your own doctor with specialised follow-up at our centre.
