​African First Ladies tour Aga Khan University Hospital Heart and Cancer Centre



<span style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;">Aga Khan University Hospital on Monday hosted twelve African First Ladies for a tour of the Heart and Cancer Centre. They were led by Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta, First Lady of Kenya, who has also officially assumed the chair of the Forum of African First Ladies Against Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer.</span><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;">In his welcome remarks, Mr Shawn Bolouki, Chief Executive Officer at Aga Khan University Hospital noted that the hospital is committed to increasing access to those who cannot afford specialised care. He added that the hospital is holding free cervical, breast and prostate cancer screening at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) where over 700 people have been screened. This free screening is part of the activities of the 9th Stop Cervical, Breast and Prostate Cancer in Africa Conference (SCCA) which the hospital is a partner.</span><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;">While giving the vote of thanks, Dr Saida Rasul, Senior Lecturer and volunteer at Aga Khan University, noted the importance of early detection, pre-surgery counselling, skillful surgery, post-surgical radiation and chemotherapy. Noting the substantive investment of Aga Khan University Hospital in the cancer programme, Dr Rasul said that competent and compassionate healthcare professionals, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and technological tools, and the treatment protocols to preserve the quality of life for those afflicted by the anguishing disease is also of critical importance in the fight against cancer.</span><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"> </span><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><span style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;">Also present at the event was Mr James Macharia, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health, Mr Aly Mawji from the Department of Diplomatic Affairs, Aga Khan Development Network, ministers from other African countries, Members of Parliament, Diplomats, government officials and guests from the private and public sector.</span><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/><br style="font-size: 14.6667px; font-family: helvetica;"/>
