Department of Orthopaedics

The Department of Orthopaedics at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive management of musculoskeletal disorders affecting bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and peripheral nerves.

As a specialised department within a quaternary-care academic medical centre, Orthopaedics delivers both surgical and non-surgical care across elective, trauma, and complex reconstructive cases. Services are provided in outpatient, inpatient, day care, and emergency settings.

The Department manages a broad spectrum of conditions, including fractures and trauma, degenerative joint disease, spinal disorders, sports-related injuries, congenital and developmental abnormalities, musculoskeletal tumours, and complex limb reconstruction. Joint replacement surgery, including primary and revision hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty, is supported by structured perioperative and rehabilitation pathways.

Care is delivered through coordinated collaboration with radiology, pathology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation medicine, rheumatology, pain management, oncology, and critical care teams. Emergency orthopaedic services are supported through dedicated on-call coverage at the main hospital campus.

In addition to clinical services, the Department contributes to postgraduate training, continuing medical education, and research in musculoskeletal health, maintaining high standards of surgical governance and patient safety.
