The Department of Surgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive surgical care across a wide range of specialties. As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Department manages both routine and highly complex surgical cases through coordinated inpatient, outpatient, and day care surgical services. 

Our surgical teams deliver care across the full continuum — from preoperative evaluation and diagnostic workup to operative management, perioperative care, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Selected procedures are performed through day care surgery programmes, allowing appropriate patients to undergo safe surgical interventions with reduced hospital stay and streamlined recovery. 

The Department works closely with anaesthesia, critical care, radiology, pathology, oncology, internal medicine subspecialties, and rehabilitation services to ensure integrated treatment planning and continuity of care. This multidisciplinary framework enables effective management of patients with complex or multisystem disease. 

In addition to clinical services, the Department plays a central role in postgraduate surgical training, academic research, and Continuing Medical Education, contributing to the advancement of surgical practice nationally.
