Breast Cancer Awareness
Let’s defeat breast cancer together. Husbands, sons, brothers, and fathers are encouraged to support their wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters in this important cause.
Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia, with an estimate that 1 in 10 women may develop breast cancer during their lifetime.
The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive breast cancer care through a multidisciplinary approach, covering everything from diagnosis to survivorship under one roof. The outcome of breast cancer largely depends on the stage of the disease. A smaller tumor usually requires less extensive treatment, involves lower costs, and results in better survival outcomes. It is important to understand that early breast cancer often does not cause symptoms and may not be detected through self-examination or even by a professional exam.
Screening mammograms play a crucial role in early detection. Women are advised to undergo screening mammograms every year after the age of 40. Those with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors may need to start screening earlier based on their doctor’s advice.
