Breast Cancer Awareness

Let’s defeat breast cancer together. Husbands, sons, brothers, and fathers are encouraged to support their wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters in this important cause.

Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia, with an estimate that 1 in 9 women may develop breast cancer during their lifetime.

The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive breast cancer care through a multidisciplinary approach, including genetic counseling, screening, diagnosis, treatment, reconstructive surgeries, and ongoing support, all under one roof.

The outcome of breast cancer largely depends on the stage of the disease. A smaller tumour usually requires less extensive treatment, involves lower costs, and results in better survival outcomes. It is important to understand that early breast cancer often does not cause symptoms and may not be detected through self-examination or even by a professional exam. The most reliable method for screening breast cancer is a mammogram.

Screening mammograms play a key role in early detection. Women are advised to undergo screening mammograms every year after the age of 40. Those with a family history of breast cancer or other risk factors may need to start earlier based on medical advice. In some cases, breast ultrasounds may also be recommended if mammogram results are inconclusive.

• Watch health awareness videos to learn more about breast cancer, helping you educate yourself and your loved ones about early detection and treatment.

• Join an awareness session on 19th October 2023 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM to learn about symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment options from expert panelists, or attend online through the official Facebook page.

Participation in these activities is voluntary, and individuals are encouraged to take part responsibly while prioritizing their health and well-being.
