Androgenic Alopecia

Book Appointment

Androgenetic alopecia is a common type of hair loss that often runs in families. It occurs when hair follicles are sensitive to androgens, hormones that can contribute to hair thinning and loss. The condition can begin after puberty and affects both men and women.

In men, hair loss typically begins at the temples or top of the head. In women, it usually causes gradual thinning over the crown and top of the head, while the frontal hairline is generally preserved. Women with polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), formerly polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), may be more likely to experience this type of hair loss.
