Acute Stress Disorder (ASD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Book Appointment

Acute stress disorder (ASD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are mental health conditions that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. They occur when the brain and body continue to respond to intense stress or fear long after the event has happened.

The main difference between the two conditions is how long the symptoms last:

  • Acute stress disorder (ASD) begins within days of a traumatic event and lasts for less than one month.

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is diagnosed when symptoms continue for more than one month after the trauma or develop later.
