Dementia is not simply forgetfulness. It is a condition in which the brain gradually loses the abilities needed for everyday life, including memory, thinking, planning, behaviour, and communication.

Dementia usually worsens over time. However, recognising symptoms early, treating contributing health problems, and providing appropriate support can make a significant difference to safety, independence, and quality of life.
