Hernia
Book AppointmentA hernia occurs when part of an internal organ or fatty tissue pushes through a weak area in the muscle or surrounding tissue, creating a noticeable lump or bulge. Hernias most commonly develop in the abdomen or groin.
The lump may become more noticeable when you cough, lift something heavy, or strain during bowel movements. Some hernias cause little or no discomfort, while others can become trapped or lose their blood supply, which is a medical emergency.
