Pharyngitis (Sore Throat)

Book Appointment

Pharyngitis, commonly known as sore throat, is inflammation of the back of the throat (the pharynx). It usually causes pain, irritation, and discomfort, especially when swallowing.

Most sore throats are caused by viral infections and resolve naturally within 7–10 days. However, some are caused by bacterial infections, such as strep throat, and require medical treatment. Less commonly, pharyngitis may be caused by fungal infections, particularly in people with weakened immune systems.
