Book AppointmentVitiligo is a skin condition that causes white patches to appear on the skin. This happens because the body’s immune system attacks the cells (called melanocytes) that give skin its colour. These patches are not itchy or painful, but they can be very noticeable, especially on darker skin. Vitiligo is not infectious and does not spread from person to person.
It can affect anyone, but most people get it before the age of 30. It affects men and women equally and sometimes runs in families. Skin injury (cut, burn, or scratch), stress, sunburn, hormonal changes, and family history of autoimmune diseases may make it worse.
