​Department of Family Medicine

The Department of Family Medicine at The Aga Khan University Hospital advances primary healthcare by providing high-quality, cost-effective preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services across the lifespan. 

Family physicians are trained to care for individuals of all ages — from newborns and children to adults and older persons — managing acute illnesses, chronic diseases, and long-term health needs. The focus of Family Medicine is continuity of care, health promotion, disease prevention, and overall well-being. 

Services include routine health assessments, maternal and child health clinics, immunisations for children and adults, family planning, geriatric care, counselling services, stress and pain management support, occupational and pre-employment medical evaluations, and coordinated care for individuals with multiple health concerns. Preventive health and wellness screening programmes are offered based on age, risk profile, and medical history. 

Family Medicine physicians work collaboratively with internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, and surgical specialties, ensuring appropriate referrals and integrated management when specialised care is required. 

Services are delivered across multiple outpatient settings, including Consulting Clinics at the main campus and secondary hospitals, outreach medical centres, executive clinics, and the Community Health Centre (CHC) at the main campus, where consultations are available at subsidised rates in line with the Hospital’s commitment to access. 

The Department also partners with corporate organisations, schools, and institutions to provide structured employee health and wellness services, including on-site consultations and preventive screening programmes where appropriate. 

Through accessible, community-based services, the Department contributes to strengthening primary healthcare and supporting long-term population health outcomes.
