The Section of Haematology at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides specialised care for malignant and non-malignant blood disorders.
The Section manages haematological malignancies such as leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, as well as benign conditions including anaemias, bleeding and clotting disorders, bone marrow failure syndromes, and other complex haematological diseases. Diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning are conducted within a structured multidisciplinary framework.
Care is supported by advanced laboratory services, transfusion medicine, and pathology, enabling precise diagnosis and evidence-based therapeutic strategies. Treatment modalities include chemotherapy, supportive transfusion therapy, and participation in clinical trials where appropriate.
Haematologists work closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, transplant services where indicated, critical care, and other medical and surgical specialties to ensure coordinated management of complex cases.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to clinical trials, laboratory research, and postgraduate training while maintaining rigorous standards of safety and clinical governance.
