The Section of Medical Oncology at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive medical management of solid tumours and systemic malignancies.

Medical oncologists oversee diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning in coordination with multidisciplinary teams across surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and supportive care services. Treatment strategies are individualised and may include chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, or combination regimens, based on tumour biology and disease stage.

Structured, site-specific tumour boards convene regularly to review cases and determine evidence-based treatment pathways. This collaborative framework ensures coordinated decision-making and alignment with established clinical protocols.

In addition to active cancer treatment, the Section provides risk assessment, surveillance strategies for high-risk individuals, and guidance on cancer prevention where appropriate.

As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to clinical trials, translational research, and postgraduate oncology training while maintaining rigorous standards of safety and governance.
