Department of Oncology
The Section of Palliative Care at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides specialised support for adult and paediatric patients living with serious or life-limiting illness.
The focus of palliative care is the prevention and relief of pain and other distressing physical, psychological, and emotional symptoms. Care may be provided alongside disease-directed treatments and is tailored to individual clinical needs.
The Section works through an interdisciplinary model, bringing together physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to support symptom management, advance care planning, communication, and coordination of care across inpatient and outpatient settings.
Palliative services are integrated with oncology, paediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, critical care, and community-based care pathways to ensure continuity and comprehensive support for patients and families.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to education and clinical research in supportive and palliative medicine while maintaining high standards of professional practice.
