Department of Radiology

The Department of Radiology at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging services across its network. 

Imaging modalities available at the Main Campus on Stadium Road include: 

• X-Rays: Chest, Abdomen, Limbs, Sinus, Facial Bones, Spine and More 

• Ultrasounds: Abdomen, Pelvic Area, Obstetric, Breast, Thyroid/Neck, Doppler Studies and More 

• CT Scans: Brain, Chest, Abdomen & Pelvis, Spine, CT Angiography, HRCT and More 

• MRI Scans: Brain, Spine, Joints, Abdomen & Pelvis, Functional MRI and More 

• Mammography and Breast Imaging: Screening and Diagnostic Mammograms, Breast Ultrasound, Breast Biopsy, CESM 

• Interventional Radiology: CT/US-guided Biopsies, Abscess Drainage, Catheter Insertions, Fibroid/Varicocele Embolisation and More 

• Nuclear Medicine: Bone Scan, Thyroid Scan, Renal Scan 

• Angiography & Vascular Interventions: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures

Selected radiology services are also available at Clifton Medical Services and at secondary hospitals in Garden, Karimabad, Kharadar (Karachi), and Hyderabad. 

Services are regulated and certified by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), operating under international safety frameworks aligned with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Hospital’s Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation further reinforces compliance with internationally recognised standards of quality, radiation safety, and patient care. 

The Department operates on an advanced Enterprise Imaging platform that consolidates diagnostic imaging across locations into a unified, secure system. The platform integrates imaging data, reporting workflows, and electronic health records, enabling clinicians to access comprehensive imaging histories efficiently and securely. This system supports interoperability through a vendor-neutral archive, enhances image storage and retrieval, strengthens data security, and facilitates collaboration across care teams. The digital infrastructure improves workflow from image acquisition to reporting, supporting timely and coordinated clinical decision-making. 

Radiology services support outpatient consultations, emergency care, inpatient management, and referrals from external physicians. Selected diagnostic services operate around the clock to meet acute and time-sensitive clinical needs. 

The Department integrates diagnostic imaging with multidisciplinary clinical teams, enabling accurate interpretation and coordinated treatment planning across medical and surgical specialties. Interventional radiology services provide minimally invasive image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. 

As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Department contributes to radiology training, research, and quality improvement initiatives while maintaining stringent safety and governance standards.
