Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery

Department of Surgery 

The Section of Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides surgical management for diseases of the heart, lungs, and other thoracic organs. 

The Section manages a broad range of conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart failure requiring surgical intervention, valvular heart disease, thoracic malignancies, and other complex cardiothoracic disorders. Both elective and emergency procedures are performed within a structured perioperative framework supported by specialised anaesthesia and critical care teams. 

Surgical services include coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), valve repair and replacement, open-heart procedures, thoracic resections, lung surgery, and other advanced cardiothoracic interventions. 

Cardiothoracic surgeons work in close collaboration with cardiology, pulmonology, oncology, critical care, and diagnostic services to ensure coordinated preoperative assessment, operative planning, and postoperative recovery. 

As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section maintains rigorous standards of surgical practice while contributing to clinical training and research in cardiothoracic disease.
