The Section of Breast Surgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides specialised surgical management of benign and malignant breast disorders.
The Section manages the full spectrum of breast disease, including breast cancer, high-risk lesions, and benign conditions. Surgical services include image-guided minimally invasive biopsies, breast-conserving surgery (lumpectomy), mastectomy, oncoplastic procedures, and breast reconstruction where indicated. Axillary procedures, including sentinel lymph node biopsy and axillary dissection, are performed within structured oncologic protocols.
Care is delivered within a multidisciplinary breast programme, with close collaboration across radiology, pathology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, and breast genetics. This coordinated approach ensures comprehensive management from diagnosis through treatment planning and long-term follow-up.
Attention is given not only to oncological safety but also to functional and reconstructive outcomes, recognising the clinical and psychological impact of breast disease in both women and men.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to surgical training and research in breast disease while maintaining rigorous standards of safety and governance.
