The Section of General Surgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive surgical management of disorders involving the gastrointestinal tract, hepatobiliary system, pancreas, endocrine organs, and colorectal region.
The Section manages both elective and emergency surgical conditions, including benign and malignant diseases of the digestive system, thyroid and parathyroid disorders, hernias, and complex abdominal pathologies. Surgical care is delivered through structured preoperative assessment, operative management, and postoperative follow-up within a coordinated clinical framework.
Given the systemic nature of many surgical conditions, general surgeons work closely with gastroenterology, oncology, endocrinology, radiology, pathology, and critical care teams to ensure accurate diagnosis and timely intervention.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section maintains high standards of surgical governance and contributes to postgraduate training and research in general and subspecialty surgery.
