The Section of Neurosurgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides specialised surgical management of disorders affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system in both adults and children.
The Section manages a broad range of conditions, including malignant and benign brain and spinal tumours, traumatic brain and spinal injuries, degenerative spine disorders, vascular neurosurgical conditions, and complex neurological diseases requiring operative intervention.
Advanced neurosurgical services include awake craniotomy and image-guided techniques supported by modern operative technologies, including the use of a neuro-robotic exoscope to enhance surgical precision and optimise patient outcomes. The Section was the first outside North America to introduce an organised system approach to awake craniotomy using a Neuro-Robotic Exoscope.
Care is delivered within a multidisciplinary framework, with close collaboration across neurology, oncology, psychiatry, radiology, critical care, and rehabilitation services to ensure comprehensive perioperative and long-term management.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to neurosurgical education and research while maintaining rigorous standards of safety and clinical governance.
