The Section of Vascular Surgery at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides specialised surgical and endovascular management of disorders affecting the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system.
The Section manages a wide range of vascular conditions, including peripheral arterial disease, aneurysms, carotid artery disease, venous disorders, dialysis access complications, and complex thrombotic conditions. Both elective and emergency cases are treated within a structured perioperative framework supported by multidisciplinary collaboration.
Surgical and endovascular services include haemodialysis access creation and revision, carotid endarterectomy, peripheral angioplasty, open and endovascular aneurysm repair, limb salvage bypass procedures, and treatment of varicose veins using minimally invasive and open techniques. Additional procedures include long-term vascular access insertion and surgical management of thoracic outlet and related vascular compression syndromes.
Given the close association between vascular disease and diabetes, renal disease, and cardiovascular conditions, care is coordinated with nephrology, cardiology, endocrinology, oncology, and critical care teams to ensure comprehensive management.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section upholds rigorous standards of surgical safety and contributes to postgraduate training and research in vascular disease.
