The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at The Aga Khan University Hospital provides comprehensive services for disorders of the respiratory system, as well as specialised management of critically ill medical patients.
The Section manages a wide spectrum of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infections such as tuberculosis and pneumonia, lung malignancies, and complex airway disorders. Chronic respiratory illnesses and acute exacerbations are managed through coordinated outpatient and inpatient services.
Critical care is delivered within dedicated intensive care units equipped to manage respiratory failure, severe infections, multi-organ dysfunction, and other life-threatening conditions. The team works closely with cardiology, infectious diseases, oncology, nephrology, and surgical services to ensure integrated management of complex cases.
Diagnostic services include pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, advanced imaging collaboration, and sleep-related breathing assessments where indicated.
As part of a quaternary-care academic medical centre, the Section contributes to postgraduate training and clinical research while maintaining rigorous standards of safety, clinical governance, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
