You may choose to seek a second opinion to get confirmation that your diagnosis is correct, to get assurance your treatment plan is good, to seek more treatment options or simply for peace of mind, especially if you are dealing with a complex disease.

Who is eligible for a second opinion?

Anyone can get a second opinion. Since it is based on the documents and information you provide, instead of a direct consultation, second opinions work best when you have been to another doctor and have some tests and/or scans available. A second opinion will help you explore your treatment options and make an informed decision on how to move forward.

What types of second opinion are available at AKUH?

AKUH is a comprehensive hospital offering all services under one roof. Therefore, you can ask for a second opinion on any disease or treatment plan, both for adults and children.

What is the fee of the AKUH Second Opinion service?

Accepted Answer

The fee for the AKUH Second Opinion service is PKR 5,460 for residents of Pakistan, and USD 67 for all international patients.​

Will I be able to choose the doctor I want for my second opinion?

Accepted Answer

AKUH's Second Opinion service allows you to share your preference for a doctor. However, if the selected doctor is unavailable, we will recommend another expert from the same specialty to review your reports.​

What should I expect to receive once I have submitted my second opinion form?

When your request for a second opinion is received for review, you will be notified via email. Our doctors will review all your available information, and you will receive a notification on email once your report is ready to be downloaded.

How soon will I get my report?

Typically, it takes 7 working days for our doctors to review your information and develop your report which you can then access and download.​

What should I do if my second opinion is different from my primary diagnosis or treatment plan?

In such a case, you may wish to discuss the results of your second opinion with your own doctor, or the one who gave you your second opinion.
