Fehmida Iqbal, a 53-year-old single mother of three, began an unexpected chapter of her life in 2017. Her journey with breast cancer started when she performed her monthly breast self-examination and noticed something unusual.
Acting swiftly, she completed all necessary medical tests within a single month, which ultimately confirmed a breast cancer diagnosis.
While understandably distressed when the news was first broken to her, Fehmida confronted her new reality with extraordinary optimism. Her medical team quickly came to describe her as an incredibly strong warrior and survivor.
Following surgery to remove the cancer, she demonstrated remarkable resilience by returning to her daily work the very next morning after her surgery. Her treatment plan then progressed to a grueling five-to-six-month regimen of chemotherapy cycles and prescribed medications.
Knowing the side effects of chemotherapy, Fehmida’s doctor advised her to cut her hair beforehand. When her hair began to fall out at home after her first session, she faced this emotional hurdle with immense grace. “Look, these things are temporary,” she reassured her children. “Everything will come back. Whatever condition God has kept me in, I am grateful for it.”
Today, Fehmida is on a strict surveillance plan. She undergoes annual check-ups and tests with her surgeon and medical oncologist to ensure the cancer does not return to her other breast or spread to different parts of her body.
A vital part of Fehmida's recovery was the compassionate guidance of her breast surgeon, Dr Sana Zeeshan. “Dr Sana guided me with great care, like a child,” Fehmida notes with deep appreciation. “Whatever I am today, it’s because of her, and I can only thank her.”
