AKUH Hosts a Children’s Carnival to Spread Joy Among Young Cancer Warriors

 
<p>The Aga Khan University Hospital&#39;s Section of Paediatric Oncology hosted a heartwarming and uplifting Children&#39;s Carnival to bring smiles and laughter to young cancer patients and survivors. The event, held on 27 February 2024, featured a delightful array of activities aimed at creating a magical and memorable day for the brave children facing the challenges of paediatric cancer.</p><p>The carnival grounds were transformed into a vibrant and festive space, adorned with colourful decorations, balloons, and flags, along with a bouncing castle, that created an atmosphere of joy and celebration. The children and their families were greeted by a burst of colours as they entered, setting the tone for a day filled with positivity.</p><p>The event kicked off with an engaging storytelling session, where the young audience were enchanted with tales of courage, resilience, and adventure. The stories not only captivated the children but also served as a source of inspiration and encouragement.</p><p>Adding a touch of glamour to the event, celebrity guest Hasnain Lehri made a special appearance, interacting with the children and sharing words of encouragement. The celebrity talk was a cherished moment for both the children and their families, providing a break from the routine of hospital visits and treatments. </p><p>A highlight of the carnival was the drum circle, where children had the opportunity to express their rhythmic talents. The infectious beats of the drums reverberated throughout the venue, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among the attendees.</p><p>An art corner provided an opportunity for the children to unleash their creativity, with painting and craft activities. A makeup and nail art stall allowed the children to indulge in some self-care and express their personal style. The stall offered a range of colourful options, transforming the young participants into dazzling stars.</p><p>Nutrition and counseling stalls were also set up, providing valuable information on maintaining a healthy lifestyle during and after cancer treatment. Interactive games at these stalls made learning fun and engaging, reinforcing the importance of nutrition and emotional well-being in the journey towards recovery.</p><p>Dr Asim Belgaumi, Chief Medical Officer, expressed the importance of holding such events to sustain and encourage young cancer patients, most of whom have been diagnosed at a late stage and face unbelievable challenges. Dr Sadaf Altaf, Paediatric Oncologist at AKUH, stated how the carnival is also an occasion for cancer survivors and their families to celebrate the end of a long and strenuous journey. </p><p>The AKUH Paediatrics Oncology Children&#39;s Carnival successfully created a haven of happiness for young cancer patients and survivors, offering a day of reprieve from the challenges they face daily. The event was a celebration of life, hope, and the unwavering spirit of these resilient young warriors.
