AKUH accredited as a Centre of Excellence for management of heart attacks

<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img src="/nairobi/PublishingImages/Fellowship%20body%20image.jpg" alt="" style="margin: 5px;"/></span> </p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><strong><em>Caption:</em></strong><em> Consultant Cardiologists and Fellows prepare for a heart procedure at Aga Khan University Hospital&#39;s State-of-the-art Cathlab facility </em></span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi (AKUH, N) is pleased to announce that it has been accredited as a centre of excellence for the management of heart attacks by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the recognized global leader in health quality standards. AKUH, N is the <strong>first hospital in Sub-Saharan Africa</strong>, and <strong>second in all of Africa</strong>, to achieve this certification.  </span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This follows a <strong>Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC)</strong> audit conducted by the JCI in August, 2020. AKUH, N received a certificate of distinction based on a review of compliance with international standards, clinical guidelines and outcomes of care.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This accreditation testifies to our commitment to provide quality patient care guided by patient safety standards and aimed at good health outcomes. It is testament that even during times of unprecedented adversities such as the COVID-19 pandemic, AKUH, N does not deviate from its commitment to provide quality patient care.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">In line with this accreditation, AKUH, N has adopted international standards that provide for standardisation of cardiac care and continuous evaluation of health outcomes in the management of heart attacks. The care will be provided in a patient-centred setting by engaging patients and family members regularly for feedback that will be used to improve the programme.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><strong>Joint Commission Accreditation</strong> and certification means an organization complies with the highest standards for safety and quality of care and is committed to continually improving patient care. The JCI <strong>Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC)</strong> Standards are intended to test specialty programs against the world&#39;s most comprehensive standards.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">AKUH,N became the first hospital in the region to receive the JCI accreditation in 2013, an accreditation that is reassessed every 3 years. In 2018, the hospital&#39;s laboratory was accredited by the <strong>College of American Pathologists (CAP)</strong>, a global recognition for the excellence of the services provided by the hospital&#39;s laboratory.
