Jumaa Bwika, MBChB, MBA, MRCP, FRCP (Edinburgh)
Clinical Assistant Professor
Dr Bwika earned his MBChB degree from the University of Nairobi in 1998 and Membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2009. He later pursued specialty training in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Respiratory Medicine in the West Midlands, United Kingdom (UK) achieving specialist certification in Respiratory Medicine from the Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and the British Thoracic Society in 2013. He completed his Consultant Training in the United Kingdom in 2014, attaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the General Medical Council with dual accreditation in the Respiratory and the GIM specialist registers, and Specialist Collegiate Membership in Respiratory Medicine. He worked as a Consultant Physician in the National Health Service for 3 years prior to joining Aga Khan University Hospital Nairobi.
Dr Bwika was awarded a Master in Business Administration (MBA) degree from the University of Birmingham and was also elected to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2019.
Dr Bwika’s skills include flexible bronchoscopy, sleep studies and non-invasive ventilation, thoracic ultrasonography for pleural procedures, medical thoracoscopy, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing (CPEX) and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). His interests include clinical management pathways, new service design, service delivery and service recovery.
