Dr Christopher Opio
Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi
Dr Opio is the Founding Fellow of East, Central and Southern Africa College of Physicians (FCP/ECSA). He holds a Fellowship in Clinical Research Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Yale University, USA and University of Texas South Western Medical School, USA respectively. He has a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine and Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from Makerere University.
Dr Opio has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist in various Hospitals and Medical Centers including our own Outreach Clinics in Kampala, Uganda. Before joining AKUH,N Dr Opio served at the Makerere University as a Senior Lecturer, Physician/Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist. He was also engaged in Public Service at Mulago National Referral Hospital, Uganda as an Internal Medicine Physician/Gastroenterologist and Head of Endoscopy Unit. Dr Opio is a Visiting Professor, Gastroenterologist – Global Health at Yale University, USA.
He has very strong clinical skill set in Luminal Gastroenterology, Hepatobiliary and Nutrition, which makes him a unique and valuable addition to our Internal Medicine Faculty.
