Newborn services ​

Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi has been awarded a UNICEF certificate that designates us as a baby-friendly hospital. From you​​​​​r baby's first breath, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is there to provide both of you with premiere medical care. Our doctors and nurses are experts in neonatal care.

We believe it is important for you and your baby to spend as much time together as possible, beginning with your stay at the hospital. In order to facilitate this, all babies who are delivered without complications room-in with their mothers. Our staff also encourages you to begin breastfeeding right away, and is available to provide any support you require.

Our newborn services include:

New Born Unit/Nursery
This unit is designed for healthy newborns who require no or minimal interventions. Whenever a baby is not rooming-in with his mother, the experienced staff in our nursery is there to provide him with compassionate, expert care.

Neonatal High Dependency Unit
In the Neonatal High Dependency Unit, newborns who require specialised medical attention receive round-the-clock observation and care.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is home to the first and only Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the East and Central African region. In this Unit, we provide specialised care of the highest international standard to newborns requiring close monitoring and high level of interventions. We have also partnered with renowned organizations such to facilitate the safe transfer of infants both to and from AKUH,N facilities.
