Urogynaecology: Assessment and treatment for womens’ bladder problems, prolapse, and fistula

Urogynaecology focuses on assessment and treatment of bladder and pelvic floor disorders. The disorders include urine incontinence, fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, recurrent urinary tract infections and perineal injuries sustained after delivery among others. These disorders are quite common but remain hidden because they cause considerable embarrassment and psychological stress to these “silent” sufferers. Often women take years before they seek help and sometimes they may present with unrelated complaints hoping for a wholesome solution.

At the Urogynaecology clinic we make it easier for women to talk about these problems to our friendly and professional staff and have on offer a range of investigations and treatment including surgical options. We have a new state of the art urodynamics machine which enables us perform various tests on the bladder including uroflow, filling and voiding cystometry, urethral pressure profile, electromyography and in future we will be doing anorectal manometry. We work closely with other specialties including urology, colorectal and fistula surgeons, neurologists, physiotherapists and counsellors.

We run a weekly clinic and urodynamics session and have over time seen the number of patients and procedures increase.
