One Day Subsidized ENT Clinic for the Population of Sindh

 
<p>On the occasion of Kashmir Day, 5th February 2019 The Aga Khan Maternal and Child Care Centre, Hyderabad arranged &#39;One-day Subsidized Clinics&#39; in collaboration with the Eye and ENT service line of the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. </p><div>Six highly experienced and senior doctors from the Aga Khan University Hospital including Dr. Mubashir Ikram, Dr. Shabbir Akhtar, Dr. Moghira Iqbal, Dr. Akbar Abbas, Dr. Shayan <g class="gr_ gr_26 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="26" data-gr-id="26">and</g> Dr. Zaffar provided consultation to patients at these specialized clinics.</div><div>
</div><div>More than 550 patients received expert consultations from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Patients not only from Hyderabad but also from many adjoining cities including Nawabshah, Larkana, Kotri <g class="gr_ gr_95 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="95" data-gr-id="95">and</g> Jamshoro came and benefited from this one-day clinic. The patients appreciated the efforts and requested for more such special clinics to cater to the people in Sindh. </div><div>
</div><div>While addressing the public Dr. Mubashir Ikram said, there are numerous people who smoke or are addicted to beetle nut, paan or gutka. Consumption of these substances can lead to life-threatening cancers. The purpose of this camp was to facilitate patients at subsidized charges for easy access to basic healthcare. </div><div>
</div><div>Patients were provided with basic consultations mainly for thyroid, throat infections, hearing problems, allergies, sinus, tonsillitis and other such problems related to ear, nose, throat, head <g class="gr_ gr_33 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="33" data-gr-id="33">and</g> neck. Some cases of cancer were also diagnosed through these subsidized consultations.</div><div>
</div><div>Patients said they were overwhelmed by this initiative. While sharing the feedback about this event one of the patients said “These subsidized clinics in Hyderabad by AKUH experts saved the hassle of <g class="gr_ gr_44 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="44" data-gr-id="44">travelling</g> to Karachi. They should be arranged more often in Hyderabad”. Another patient expressed his views by saying; “We highly appreciate the efforts of the Aga Khan University Hospital, we hope such camps are also arranged in other cities of Sindh, particularly Nawabshah”. </div><div>
</div><div>“I am extremely happy to visit these clinics in Hyderabad. I am a cancer patient and I usually travel to Karachi for my treatment but since my doctor was coming to facilitate these clinics in Hyderabad I came to see him here. This is great work, keep it up” – Ms. Farhana, a Government Teacher, Hyderabad.</div>
