My name is Farhat Abbas, and I am the CEO of the Aga Khan University Health Services, Pakistan, including our Main Hospital on Stadium Road, Karachi, our four off-campus Aga Khan Hospitals in Karachi and Hyderabad, and our Outreach Health Network spread across 300 cities in Pakistan.
It is my privilege to serve you by building on the successes of my esteemed predecessors and working with our health services team to ensure that we continue to deliver the highest quality of care, with an ever improving standard of patient centricity and patient experience.
I have a longstanding relationship with AKU, spanning over 40 years. I am a surgeon by training and profession, and have served in multiple roles at the University and the Health Services. It is my endeavour to ensure that our organization remains synonymous with access to quality healthcare throughout Pakistan and the region, in line with our values of Quality, Access, Relevance and Impact.
We are committed to offering quality healthcare which is accessible to all, regardless of our patients' ability to pay. Our Patient Welfare and Zakat Programmes have served millions of patients over the years, and in 2024 alone, nearly 1.5 million patients received financial support exceeding Rs. 719 crores (USD 25.6 million), about 75% of which was funded by the hospital's own funds.
