Pacemaker/Implantable Cardiac Device Clinic​


This is a unique service provided by The Aga Khan University Hospital for patients who have a permanent pacemaker in place. Although modern technology has made new permanent pacemakers very dependable with long battery life, a regular check-up is still important to ensure smooth and trouble-free function. The Aga Khan University Hospital has the facility to check pacemakers made by all major manufacturers. The pacemaker function and battery life can be assessed by using sophisticated equipment and it’s programming can be adjusted to best suit your needs. You may be able to use this facility even if your pacemaker was implanted at some other hospital. 

  • An advance appointment must be made. 

  • Bring your doctor's prescription to the appointment. 

  • No special preparation is needed. 

  • You should eat all meals and take your prescribed medications as usual.

  • You may be requested to change into a hospital gown.

  • A magnet wand will be placed over the pacemaker on the chest wall and different readings will be obtained.

  • A doctor will be available during the procedure.

  • The readings can be provided to you at the end of the test and for your doctor’s review.​
