<p>With an illustrious career spanning over 2 decades; comprising numerous success stories of patients, Dr. Nuzhat Faruqui, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, and Service Line Chief, Urology and Nephrology, The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has been awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz for her services in public health. </p><p>The Tamgha-i-Imtiaz is the one of the highest decoration given to any civilian in Pakistan based on their achievements. The patron is the first Pakistani female urologist with formal training in urology disorders that affect women and has been serving the public sector with support from AKUH and its robust <a href="/pakistan/patients-families/welfare-zakat-assistance/Pages/welfare-programme.aspx">Welfare and Zakat programs</a>.</p><p>In 2009, Dr. Faruqui founded a not-for-profit organization, Ulphat, which assists in complex surgical procedures of infants and children from across Pakistan. </p><p>Dr. Faruqui says her team has treated over 450 pediatric patients all over Pakistan suffering from complex diseases that require surgery. Around 70% of the cases were of cardiac surgery while 30% belonged to gastrointestinal and cleft palate surgeries.</p><p>With its mission to make quality healthcare affordable to all, AKUH has been instrumental in making this possible and saving the lives of children who wouldn't have otherwise been able to afford costly surgeries. </p><p>Dr. Faruqui routinely holds medical camps in vulnerable areas around Pakistan, bringing primary healthcare closer to people. </p>
