AKUH Recognised for Maintaining the Gold Standard in Patient Safety and Care

<p>The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has been re-accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), as we continuously demonstrate continuous compliance with world-class performance standards. The AKUH was the first hospital in Pakistan to receive JCI accreditation in 2006 and since then, AKUH has been able to successfully meet the required standards.</p><div></div><div>It is the only institution in Pakistan accredited by JCI as an Academic Medical Centre, which means that it meets additional compliance standards.</div><div>
</div><div>“I am so proud of my Hospital team for their commitment to patient safety and care. We take our responsibility to our patients and this gold seal very seriously,” said Hans Kedzierski, CEO, AKUH.</div><div>
</div><div>The AKUH underwent a rigorous, on-site survey in the first week of September 2018 when a team of JCI expert surveyors evaluated compliance with academic medical center hospital standards related to a variety of areas, including the International Patient Safety Goals, patient assessment and care, anesthesia and surgical care, medication management, patient and family education, quality improvement, infection prevention and control, governance and leadership, facility management, staff qualifications and education, information management, medical professional education, and human subjects research.</div><div>
</div><div>“Quality in a healthcare setting is a major challenge nowadays. We are proud to be JCI accredited and we here at the Aga Khan University Hospital have all the guidelines and practices that a quality health care system should have in <g class="gr_ gr_37 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="37" data-gr-id="37">clinical</g> setting. We exhibit a culture of excellence and we continuously work on improving our performance and quality patient care,” says Amina Khan, Nurse Manager, Heart Lung <g class="gr_ gr_38 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="38" data-gr-id="38">and</g> Vascular Service Line at the AKUH.</div><div>
</div><div>The AKUH’s JCI accreditation has raised the bar for the delivery of quality health services in the country whereby other hospitals in Pakistan have also recently been successfully accredited. We achieve the sense of accomplishment when our patients feel cared for.</div><div>
</div><div>“The doctors, nurses and their teams were very cooperative and empathetic. They were there whenever we needed them and followed up constantly and I will tell people that the treatment and procedures done at the Aga Khan University Hospital is very effective,” says <g class="gr_ gr_34 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="34" data-gr-id="34">91 year old</g> Haji Naeem who came to AKUH for treatment from Quetta.</div><div>
</div><div>For each of our staff members, it means that we can take pride in knowing that our work every day ensures that patients are being given the same quality of care that they would receive at any internationally <g class="gr_ gr_31 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="31" data-gr-id="31">recognised</g> hospital in the world. </div><div><span style="white-space: pre;"> </span></div>
