<div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, takes another leap forward in the field of Neuro Sciences and the treatment options offered for brain tumors. It is the first Teaching Hospital outside North America and the first in Pakistan to introduce the revolutionary “Neuro-Robotic Exoscope”; a robotic system that makes it possible for surgeons to have advanced brain mapping and use a minimally invasive surgical approach. Surgeons can now have superior visibility of the blood vessels and nerves within the tissues, and can navigate with precision and accuracy to remove a tumor, ensuring minimal damage to the surrounding tissues. Patients can be kept awake during the procedure with minimum sedation, known as an Awake Craniotomy, enabling the surgeons to have ongoing dialogue with the patient and ensuring that the nerves or tissues are not affected in a manner that may cause permanent functional damage. Other advantages for the patient being operated with the Neuro-Robotic Exoscope include faster recovery time, shorter length of stay in the hospital and overall improved outcomes. </span></div><div><br style="font-family: helvetica;"/></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">The Neuro-Robotic Exoscope was developed by Neuro Surgeon Dr. Amin Kassam, Vice President, Neurosciences System Clinical Programme, Aurora Neurosciences Innovation Institute, Chair, Neurosurgery, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, USA and Mr. Cameron Piron, President of Synaptive Medical. It is being successfully used in North America.
