President of Pakistan Presents the Prestigious Sitara-i-Imtiaz Award on Dr. Ather Enam

 
<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">​Dr. Ather Enam, Chair of the Department of Surgery at AKUH, was honou​red with Pakistan’s third highest civilian award on 24 March 2017, when the President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, presented Sitara-e-Imtiaz to him. The honor, granted to individuals who make exceptional contributions in their service to the country, was conferred to Dr. Ather Enam in April 2016 for his outstanding work in the field of medicine.</span></p><div><br style="font-family: helvetica;"/></div><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Dr. Ather Enam joined The Aga Khan University Hospital in December 2003 and spearheaded the development of the AKU’s Neurosurgery programme, which has trained some of Pakistan’s brightest new surgeons. He is an expert in minimally invasive spinal surgery and in 2016, conducted Pakistan’s first successful Awake Craniotomy, a brain surgery during which a patient is awake and able to converse, minimizing the risk of damaging crucial areas of the brain.</span></div><div>
