The launch of new Catheterization Lab aims to treat patients more accurately.

 
<div>The catheterization laboratory at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) over the years has become one of the most comprehensive labs in Pakistan for diagnosis and treatment of complex heart and vascular diseases in both children and adults. The launch of this new laboratory enhances the level of care provided to the patients and puts us one step closer to providing exemplary services to those in need.

</div><div>At AKUH we are the only catheterization laboratory in the Karachi with such a wide variety of multi-disciplinary coverage, ranging from cardiology to nephrology procedures and caters to thousands of patients every year and the development of the new laboratory will cater to the rising need of patients in the country. </div><div>
</div><div>The new machinery provides clearer imagery, better diagnosis and lesser exposure to radiation, which benefits both the patient and the staff. Catering to all paediatric heart procedures, peripheral vascular procedures, interventional nephrology procedures, coronary procedures that include diagnostics and interventions, structural heart procedures through minimally invasive technique (Trans-catheter Aortic Valve Replacement – TAVR) and electrophysiology procedures (Electrophysiology study or catheter ablation), a new complex ablation has also been introduced.</div><div>
</div><div>At the launch event, on August 20th, 2020, the leadership of AKUH was present, including Shagufta Hassan Interim CEO, AKUH, K, Dr Adil Haider, Dean Medical College, AKU, Dr Aamir Hameed Khan, Service Line Chief Heart Lung and Vascular, Professor of Medicine and Consultant Cardiologist, AKU and Dr. Javed Tai, Director Catheterisation Lab, AKUH, K.</div><div>
</div><div>“The inauguration of the state-of-the-art multipurpose Cath lab marks a milestone for the cardiovascular services. It continues the legacy of the first primary angioplasty program of the country. It is also the first of the places, where cardiac electrophysiology was introduced.” He continued and talked about the enhancement of services, “Today the catheterization lab serves multiple specialties (cardiology, pediatric cardiology, vascular surgery etc.) and addresses a wide variety of diseases from rhythm abnormalities to endovascular solutions. Manned by the best team the service offered is the most comprehensive in the country. AKU once again lives up to its promise and the vision of the Chancellor, His Highness the Aga Khan of providing state of the art care to all our patients.” said Dr Aamir Hameed Khan.</div><div>
