The AKUH Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is dedicated to offering specialised care for critically ill or injured infants, toddlers, and older children. Our state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced technology and staffed by a team of highly skilled paediatric intensive care physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, all focused on ensuring the best possible outcomes for your child.

Conditions We Treat

Our PICU cares for a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Respiratory problems requiring invasive and non-invasive ventilation, such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis. We offer non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV), resulting in improved outcomes.
  • Cardiac conditions, such as congenital heart defects and arrhythmias.
  • Neurological emergencies, such as meningitis and seizures.
  • Sepsis (severe bloodstream infection).
  • Trauma and injuries.
